Barbados is the easternmost major island of the Lesser Antilles, with Grantley Adams International Airport handling long-haul jet traffic. Its position on the Atlantic edge of the Caribbean placed it near Eastern Range downrange geometries and on convenient tracks between the United States, South America, and Africa.

Lieutenant General Robert F. Raggio’s ARIA reunion remarks, preserved on flyARIA, list Barbados among deployments to “pretty choice locations—Barbados, Tahiti, New Zealand and Australia, among others.” The joke sets up the harder stops; Barbados was one of the pleasant ones.

Together with Antigua, Trinidad, Martinique, and Guadeloupe, Barbados marks the Caribbean cluster on the ARIA map—islands where crews staged for western Atlantic and range-support flying.
